RLM 65 (1938) is the original Luftwaffe underside blue the pale, slightly green-leaning “Hellblau” that went under the wings and fuselages of early-war aircraft like the Bf 109E, He 111 and Ju 87, paired up top with RLM 70/71 splinter camouflage. If you’re building anything from the Polish and French campaigns through to the Battle of Britain, this is the shade you want.

Best for

• Undersides on early-war Luftwaffe fighters and bombers (193841 production)
• Layering under the later, greyer RLM 65 (1941) revision to show weathering or repaints
• Mixing as a base for RLM 76 conversions on late-war builds

AK’s 3rd Generation acrylics are formulated for smooth airbrush flow straight from the bottle, so you get a clean, even undercoat without fighting the paint.

Water-based, for brush or airbrush. Pick up the 1941 revision or the RLM 70/71 upper colours in our AK 3rd Gen Acrylics collection, and see our airbrushing kit if you’re setting up for the job.
